CHEVERTON MEDIA / INTERNAL CASE STUDY

We checked our own path first.

A public service page only helps if a visitor can read it, try the sample and find a way to ask. We repaired three observable problems on Cheverton Media’s Enquiry Care pages, then caught a narrower defect on the route into the offer.

A VISIBLE BEFORE / AFTER

The difference is inspectable.

These two 390px frames render the same Cheverton-owned page from its archived pre-repair source and its released repair. The old hero spills out of frame; the revised copy and pilot action fit. The selected navigation label also changes from pale gold to a darker, more readable state.

Side-by-side archived and repaired 390-pixel views of Cheverton Media’s own Enquiry Care page: the original headline and action overflow their frame; the repaired version fits and its selected navigation link is darker
Reconstructed browser comparison from Cheverton source commit 472ae0b and the released repair, captured September 24, 2026. This is our own site, not a customer result. Both frames use the same fixed width; they are not evidence of inbox delivery.

01 / FIND, CHANGE, VERIFY

Three defects. Three observable fixes.

Mobile copy stayed inside the frame

At a 390px review width, the two-column hero’s minimum sizing pushed the headline, copy and pilot action outside the available content area. We changed the mobile grid to a shrinkable single column and allowed its children to contract.

After release: a 375px interior viewport measured 375px of document scroll width; the 335px hero grid and pilot action fit.

The active link became readable

The selected “Enquiry Care” navigation link was pale gold on the cream header. Its computed colors measured about 1.28:1 contrast. We changed that one active state to a dark brown while keeping an underline and visible keyboard focus.

After release: the new colors calculate to about 5.33:1 contrast for normal text.

The demo led somewhere useful

The fictional browser demo validated fields but offered no route back to the proposal or a pilot enquiry. We added two visible links by the result state: “Ask about a pilot” and “Back to the offer.”

After release: both links were exposed to the browser accessibility tree; empty-field validation still displayed its error summary.

FOLLOW-UP / SEPTEMBER 25

The route into the offer had to fit too.

A later 320px review found horizontal overflow on the Cheverton Holdings homepage: the document scrolled 312px inside a 305px content viewport, clipping part of the navigation and pushing directory cards past the right edge. We adjusted the narrow layout and kept the direct path into the Enquiry Care offer.

After the repair was released, the live page measured 305px of document scroll width in the same 305px content viewport. The navigation wrapped and the directory card and offer action stayed inside the frame. This was a first-party mobile check, not a customer-site result or an inbox receipt.

02 / EVIDENCE BOUNDARY

The check stops where the evidence stops.

We built the static site, reviewed the page at a narrow rendered viewport, checked computed layout and color, exercised the fictional validation path, then verified the production pages and stylesheet on the live domain. The demo sends and stores nothing.

This was a usability and presentation repair of our own pages. It did not test a customer website, submit to a real inbox, prove conversion improvement, establish a buyer or complete the separate $150 form-to-receipt pilot.
